New Committee

April 23, 2009 - One Response

Following a great turnout at our AGM, we’ve elected a brand new committee to take us into next year.

President – James Harrison
Vice-President (Events) – Louise Irving
Vice-President (Campaigns) – Ruaraidh Dobson
Treasurer – Ailsa McGregor

There’ll be a general election some time between now and next June, and since Glasgow North is a target seat (only 3338 votes to win!) we’ll be working hard to elect Katy Gordon to Parliament, and show Glasgow students that only the Lib Dems will stand up for them.

Merry Christmas!

December 19, 2008 - Leave a Response

Politics Week!

November 20, 2008 - Leave a Response

We’ve got a couple of great events planned for politics week (24th-30th November)!

On Monday 24th we’re really lucky to have Ross Finnie, MSP for the West of Scotland and Shadow Minister for Health here to speak about Mental Health and Addiction. Ross is well known in the party for his barnstorming speeches, so this is an event not to miss! It’s provisionally booked for 6:30 in the Williams Room, John Mac Building, but this could change – check out the facebook event to keep up to date.

On Thursday 27th we have Liam MacArthur, MSP for Orkney and Environment Spokesperson, and Katy Gordon, PPC for Glasgow North to talk to us about how the Credit Crunch will affect Green issues. If you’re concerned about the environment, this is a must. The venue isn’t set yet, but we’ll keep you posted here and on the facebook group.

We’ll have free drinks and snacks at both these events, so come along!

Tax – what do you think?

November 17, 2008 - Leave a Response

There was some controversy at conference this year about the party’s tax plans. Our policy is to reduce basic rate income tax by 4p in the pound, bringing it down to 16p. What do you think?

Liberal Youth Scotland Meeting

November 17, 2008 - Leave a Response

After a really successful meeting on the 14th of November, Liberal Youth Scotland will be meeting again on Monday 1st December, 6:00pm in Party HQ at 4 Clifton Terrace, Edinburgh. Everyone’s welcome to come along. Among other things we’ll be discussing motions to conference, so if you’ve got an idea for lib dem policy we can help make the case!

Clifton Terrace is right across the road from Haymarket Station, so it’s dead easy to find. Google map.

If you have any questions, get in touch by email: gu_liberal_democrats@hotmail.com. See you there!

Student Action Day

November 14, 2008 - Leave a Response

On Saturday 22nd November we’re helping Katy Gordon out by having a student action day. We’ll be delivering a few of the new leaflets she’s putting out, then going for a few drinks at the QM. There will be lots of prizes given out at the end by Katy, mostly in the form of drinks.

And as if that wasn’t enough, we’ll be meeting up with one of the current famous faces of the Lib Dems when we’re about to head off! What’s not to love?

The timetable for the day is…

10.00 – Meet outside the QMU
10.15 – Head up to Gilshochill by minibus
13.00 – Break for lunch
17.00 – Get some drinks at Jim’s

See you there!

Meeting, 28th October

October 15, 2008 - Leave a Response

We will be having a meeting on 28th October at 6pm in the T.V room of the QMU with Katy Gordon, the PPC for Glasgow North. Come along to meet her and get to know Glasgow North’s campaigns. Remember, we’re only a 6% swing from the first LibDem seat in Glasgow for 20 years!

We will be going to Jim’s bar afterwards so if you haven’t had a chance to meet us yet, come along!
